The State of Indiana ( /ɪndiˈænə/ (help·info)) was the 19th U.S. state admitted into the union. It is located in the midwestern region of the United States of America. With about 6.3 million residents, it is ranked 15th in population and 17th in population density.[4] Indiana is ranked 38th in land area and of the lower 48 states, Indiana is the smallest state west of the Appalachian Mountains. Its capital and largest city is Indianapolis. Its one of only two states that share its name with its capital city. |
